With as many as 100 (or a few more) folks on my messenger list, all kinds of status messages show up.. from the funny to the serious to the philosophical to the trippy. This blog is my attempt to archive all status messages that deserve a mention (with background stories attached where applicable). Sounds crazy? If you knew me, you should be disappointed that I dint start this earlier 😀

If you’re willing to do your bit for this blog, I’d be most happy to add you as an author! More the merrier 🙂 Drop in a comment and I’ll get back.

PS: Oh, you got the question “Who’s this oh-so-#$%#$ guy?” ringing in your brains? Ans: A college student from that “world’s biggest democracy“, studying in one of its premier technological institutes down south. ‘Nuff said.

Bottomline: All status messages are copyright of their respective owners/users. All issues arising out of >1 status message being exact same at any point on the time scale shall be settled mutually, I hold no responsibility!

Ganesh adds: Interesting status message! Added without delay. Would be happier if I knew your identity 🙂

  2. dude i found your blog through google and the statusmessages are wicked 😀 very nice, keep up the good work 😉

Ganesh replies: Thanks! Its more a testament to the average IITian’s ability to come up with creative stuff for their status messages 😉 (and the joblessness that lets them do it in the first place! :D) Addendum: Not all status messages are from IIT(M)ians, a few from others too are part of the blog.

Some suggestions… How about tags for the people to whom they are attributed? That would be a great way to search for things… And hey, isn’t this programmatically possible? Anyone for a purple plugin? :p

Ganesh adds: hehe, I thought of this sometime long back, gave it a try and all I got was NULLs when I tried to extract status whenever it changed and gave up 😀 Too little patience! And tag for people, ya.. I realised it only recently.. But a quick search for the person’s name should do the job I felt.. If I get so vetti sometime, will add tags to all posts 😀

  3. Here are some from my gTalk list:

Xerox is the second-greatest labor-saving device ever invented, the greatest being tomorrow.

Mary had a little lamb… and then she had some dessert

There was a man who dreamt he was writing LoTR, but he was only Tolkein in his sleep.

If Osama is only six degrees away, why can’t we catch him?

Why bother with subroutines when you can type fast?

Ganesh: Thanks! This blog needed some contributions badly 🙂

    Royally Challenged!!!

  5. There are 2 things that prevent me from watching Sex and the city – Testicles

  6. “but its to hard to be optimistic!”

  7. Its time I start talking with philosophers. Most of them take soundness to be completeness. Perhaps a pilot study comparing the harmonic means of the verifiable facts retrieved and the number of correct inferences resulting from different proposals! What do you think would be a suitable mini-corpus?

    • Now, that was a little over the top of my little head.. Care to explain in more layman terms?

  8. I DO know it all. I just can’t remember it all at once.

  9. A message a day, keeps me away. :p

  10. Taj Mahal: the symbol of love.
Some facts: 1. Shah Jahan built Taj for Mumtaz, who was his 3rd wife.
    2. He killed Mumtaz’s husband to marry her.
    3. She died giving birth to her 14th child.
    4. Shah Jahan later married Mumtaz’s sister.
    I’m confused. Where is love?

I’m wondering: How come if alcohol kills millions of brain cells, it never killed the ones that made me want to drink?
